Pennsylvania is experiencing the change of redistricting State Senate and State House. The SUN area is directly impacted by changing district lines during this election year. Of importance is the when and where of representation.
During 2014 several facts should be considered if you live in a redistricted precinct.
1. As of January 15th you are now living in your new district.
2. The representative and/or senator of your previous district continue to represent you until newly elected officials are sworn in after the November election.
3. You may only sign nominating petitions for candidates in the district in which you currently reside (ie. the new district).
District changes in the SUN area include
- Rep. Fred Keller’s 85th district now includes all of western Snyder County, but it loses Gregg and White Deer Townships in Union County.
- Rep. Garth Everett’s 84th district moves into Union County where it picks up Gregg and White Deer Townships.
- Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver’s 108th district picks up several new precincts in eastern Snyder County.
- Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver’s 108th and Rep. Kurt Masser’s 107th districts realign their boundaries in Northumberland County.
- Senator Gene Yaw’s 23rd district picks up the western end of Union County while Senator Jake Corman’s 34th is removed completely from the SUN area.
Consult the redistricting maps to confirm your new (current) district, especially before signing nominating petitions. We will continue to access constituent services through our previous district office, although we are fortunate that all our Republican elected officials are working cooperatively in this regard.
