Our March meeting was a mix of business and lively discussion on the second point of the PAGOP’s I Am A Republican Because…  We discussed the founders intent as they drafted the Constitution focusing on the personal property rights of life and material goods.

SUNACRW will visit residents of the Wilkes-Barre Veteran’s Hospital on Sunday, February 19th to distribute Valentine’s for Vets.  Area children created the cards and messages at our booth at the Evangelical Hospital Health Fair.  We will present a program of inspirational readings, music and patriotic thankfulness.

Rep. Sam Rohrer listens to Pedro Servano explain the couple's situation

Dr. Pedro and Salvacion Servano of Selinsgrove met with U.S. Senatorial candidate, Sam Rohrer during a recent campaign visit to the Valley.  The Servanos shared their twenty year battle to attain U.S.citizenship with the former Pennsylvania House leader who is running to replace Senator Robert Casey, Jr.

The Servanos have lived in the United States for 29 years and have four American born children.  Dr. Servano is a family practice physician with Geisinger Clinic, Selinsgrove.  His wife, Salva, is a nurse in an area nursing home and operates a small specialty grocery in Sunbury.  Their children: Sapphine is a real estate agent in Philadelphia; Steven is in law school; Peter is studying physical therapy; and Phoebe, a senior at Selinsgrove High School, will attend Temple University in the fall.

The Servanos immigrated to the U.S. on green cards which allowed them to stay in the country permanently.  However, they dreamed of becoming U.S. citizens.  Their legal status changed when they began the naturalization process.  Immigration officials denied their applications and on Thanksgiving 2007 they were ordered to report to Allenwood Federal Prison Camp to await deportation.  A reprieve was granted, but the Servanos live each day not knowing when the next deportation order may be placed.

Sam Rohrer is a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Berks County.  He is seeking the Republican nomination in the April 24^th primary.  Rep. Rohrer is concerned about bureaucracy at the federal level and hopes to simplify the naturalization process for those who immigrated legally.

Rep. Rohrer listened intently as the Servanos explained that all immigration appeals have been exhausted and their only hope to remain in the U.S. permanently depends on the legislative process.  The Servanos need a U.S. Senator or Congressman to champion a private immigration bill granting them citizenship.  Otherwise each day could be the one they dread – the day they are told to leave their children, their home and community.

On the day of the 39th March for Life, SUNACRW reaffirms its committment to the protection of life, to work to eliminate abortion and to actively support those in crisis pregnancies.    The Right to Life has been a cornerstone of our structure since the formation of this council of Republican women; and, we call on others to join our efforts.

Whereas… SUNACRW recognizes the timeless wisdom of the Founding Fathers as articulated in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”, and

Whereas… SUNACRW believes that without the unalienable right to life, all other rights are indefensible, and

Whereas… SUNACRW recognizes that the right to life is threatened by legislative decree, judicial decisions, political expediency, societal selfishness and individual apathy

Be it resolved that SUNACRW determines to uphold life as an unalienable right endowed by our Creator, and that

SUNACRW will promote and adhere to the belief that life begins at conception and ends at natural death, and shall be defended and nurtured at all points between without regard to age, physical or mental capability, and that

SUNACRW will promote a pro-life position and reject any attempts to change the platform or implementation of a contrary policy within the Republican Party.
