The winners of the 2017 Loretta M. Sprenkle Memorial Essay Contest, their families and friends were guests of SUN Area Council of Republican Women on May 4, 2017. Winners read their essay, received their cash awards and certificates before enjoying a social time.
Regional students submitted essays on the 2017 topic, “What was the most important event in United States history and why?”
Sr. High winners were Noah Stamm, who wrote about the Importance of the Industrial Revolution and Erin King, whose focus was the American Revolution. Both are home educated students from New Columbia.
Ralph Baker of Riverside, a Jr. High student at St. Joseph’s School, Danville, wrote about The Civil War.
SUN Area Council of Republican Women sponsors the annual essay contest each spring in memory of founding member Loretta Sprenkle who was committed to educating youth on the importance of Americanism. It is open to all students living in Snyder, Union or Northumberland counties. The essay topic is announced each January.
