Announcing the 3rd Annual Loretta M. Sprenkle Memorial Essay Contest

SUN Area Council of Republican Women announces the Third Annual Loretta M. Sprenkle Memorial Essay Contest open to students in grades 7-12 who are residents of Snyder, Union or Northumberland counties.   The contest is open to students who attend public, private, parochial or home schools.

Loretta Sprenkle was a founding member of SUN Area Council of Republican Women.   She served residents of Snyder County as a county deputy treasurer, Republican committeewoman, and was heavily involved in civic and church activities.  Mrs. Sprenkle passed away suddenly in early 2012 leaving a legacy of love of God, Family and Country.  She was committed to educating youth on the importance of Americanism.

Students will write an essay entitled, “What is the most important freedom in the Bill of Rights and why?”  Essays will be judged in two divisions, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12.  Each division will award a first place prize of $100 and a certificate.  Those who place second will receive $50 and a certificate.  Winners will be given the opportunity to read their essays and receive their awards at a future SUNACRW meeting.
