Loretta M. Sprenkle Memorial Essay Contest

SUNACRW is pleased to announce the inaugural Loretta M. Sprenkle Memorial Scholarship Contest.  The contest is open to students in grades 7-12 who are residents of Snyder, Union or Northumberland counties and who attend public, private, parochial or home schools.

Loretta Sprenkle was a founding member of SUN Area Council of Republican Women.   She served residents of Snyder County as a county deputy treasurer, Republican committeewoman, and was heavily involved in civic and church activities.  Loretta passed away suddenly in early 2012 leaving a legacy of love of God, Family and Country.  She was committed to educating youth on the importance of Americanism.

Students in grades 7-9 will write an essay entitled, “My American Hero” while those in grades 10-12 will answer the question, “Why did our founding fathers choose a republic over a democracy?”    Each division will award a first place prize of $50 and a certificate.  Winners will be given the opportunity to read their essays and receive their awards at the May 1, 2014 SUNACRW meeting.

All entries must be postmarked by April 1, 2014 and include an official entry form.
