I just came across an outstanding scholarship opportunity for a junior or senior high school student……  so, please share this scholarship opportunity with your members. It is time sensitive with a deadline of July 31, 2012!

The National Foundation of Women Legislators is hosting the 15th annual ‘Bill of Rights Essay Scholarship Contest’.  The topic of this year’s contest is “The Constitution and States Rights: How Federalism Impacts Women and Historically Underrepresented Populations.”

Winners stand to receive $3000.00 to any college or university of their choice.  In addition, the scholarship winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the NFWL’s Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

To get all information, an application packet and all requirements for the contest access: events@womenlegislators.org you will get all rules, you can print the application and check everything out.   The applications materials must be postmarked by Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

SUNACRW will be well represented at Union County’s Veterans 4th of July events next Friday and Saturday.  On Friday evening before the fireworks and Saturday after the parade we will have a booth among the vendors.  Stop by for a fruit cup and get to know us.

It is with sad hearts that SUNACRW recognizes the passing of a founding member of our council, Loretta Sprenkle.  Loretta touched many lives.  She always lent a helping hand and was available to her friends no matter the need.  We will deeply miss her.

Loretta was born Jan. 4, 1950, in Lewistown, a daughter of Neida P. (Keister) Bowersox, of Middleburg, and the late Harold W. Bowersox Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 6. On April 5, 1969, she married Robert L. Sprenkle, who survives.
Loretta was a graduate of Middleburg Joint High School with the Class of 1967 and Corning Community College.
 

At the time of her passing, she was employed with the Union-Snyder Community Action AmeriCorps Program and also at Shrawder’s Mini Mart as a bookkeeper. She formerly held positions in the Susquehanna University Financial Aid Office, in Snyder County government as a deputy treasurer and at Swineford National Bank.
 

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Penns Creek, the Penns Creek Fire Company ladies auxiliary, where she organized fundraisers, the SUN Area Council of Republican Women, the Pennsylvania and National Federation of Republican Women and as a Center Township representative on the Snyder County Republican Committee. Loretta assisted the Penns Creek Little League and organized blood drives as well as fund raisers for the Penns Creek Ball Association at the McClure Bean Soup. She never missed an opportunity to dance with the Country Twirlers, and enjoyed their dancing at the Farm Show each year.
 

The greatest joy of Loretta’s life was her grandson, R.W. She will be remembered as a loving, generous and kind lady who always had everyone’s best interests at heart.
 

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 43 years and her mother, are one son, Wade Sprenkle and his companion, Paula Nolte, of Middleburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Corinna and Rodney Englehardt, of New Berlin; one grandson, Rodney Englehardt Jr.; two brothers, Harold Bowersox Jr. and his companion, Sue Osgood, of Kreamer, and Raymond Bowersox and his wife, Dori, of Liverpool; one sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Gary Smith, of Middleburg; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.
 

She was preceded in death by one brother, Solomon Keister.
 

A celebration of Loretta’s life was held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Zion United Methodist Church, Middleburg, with Pastor Bob Klingerman officiating.
