Ladies Hand Gun Training

SUN Area Council of Republican Women encourages all of its members to secure and train on a firearm of their choice.  Christy was able to work with John at the Kreamer Sportsmen’s Club to schedule our next classes in March.
The “Ladies Hand Gun Safety Class” will be held on March 15, 6-9  and March16, 8-1 for shooting, gun cleaning, and related instruction.  Cost per person is $20.00, for both Friday and Saturday and includes lunch on Saturday.  It will be open to the public.  The class is limited to 25 women.
Please let me know no later than March 8th if you are going to attend.   I recommend you make your reservations as early as possible in case they have an overwhelming response from the public.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Kreamer Sportsman’s Club the fee is $40.00 and then $30.00 after that.  That permits you to use the year-round indoor .22 pistol range and the outside range.

School Budgets: Where The Money Goes

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

SUNACRW welcomed Benjamin Ranck, staffer for Rep.Fred Keller, to present his research related to school budgets and how prevailing wage affects building projects such as the one being pursued in Lewisburg School District.

There was a lively discussion as we more fully investigated the structure of school budgets, the significant impact of arbitrarily elevated costs of building projects, the long-term commitments to retirement funding and the  subsequent burden of all these on the local taxpayer.

We are please Rep. Keller continues to pursue changes to the outdated prevailing wage law.

PFRW Board Meeting

The Pennsylvania Federation of Republican Women held its quarterly board meeting on February 9, 2013 at the Harrisburg Hilton.

The new approach to scheduling PFRW Board meetings to coincide with PAGOP seasonal meetings proved wise and worthwhile as many of our councils were able to send representation to both meetings while containing travel and hotel costs for board members.

Important actions were approved related to our headquarters.  Authorization was given to replace the water heater at the PFRW House.  Systematic upgrades are planned now that the City of Harrisburg’s antiquated steam heat system has been discontinued.  Future projects to be considered include replacement of windows, improving handicap accessibility and general reorganization to allow for a frequent use of the space.  A new copier/fax will be secured to replace the one no longer covered by service agreements

PFRW Caring for America committee continues to collect toothbrushes for soldiers on the front lines.

Legislative issues PFRW supports and encourages action upon include The series of Right To Work bills (HB50, HB51, HB52, HB53, HB 250) and changes to pre diem expense payments introduced by Rep. Dan Truitt.

The next PFRW meeting will coincide with the PAGOP Summer Meeting in Hershey on June 28-29.

All are welcome to attend.

PFRW Board of Directors’ Meeting

The PFRW board of directors will meet Saturday February 9, 2012 at the Hilton Hotel, Harrisburg after the PA GOP State Committee Winter meeting.
